You can be like everyone else and collect remote controls, forget where you left them and never have the right batteries to hand when they run out OR you can take real control of your environment with an automation control system. Systems come in various shapes and sizes and, depending on budget, can manage and simplify every aspect of your environmental control (lighting, curtains/blinds, heating), music, TV & film, security... even water your garden! The sky is the limit and this is one of those times when you really can let your imagination run wild. For example: You wouldn’t think much of setting your alarm clock to wake you up in the morning would you? Well why not have your home run you a bath that’s ready just as you get up too – at just the right depth, just the right temperature and, yes, it’ll even put in the bubble bath for you. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Consider you’re watching a movie in the luxury of your own home theatre when some inconsiderate friend decides to phone. His number will appear on your touch-panel, allowing you to decide whether you want to take the call. “Nothing special” you say – but that’s not the clever part. As you touch the screen to accept the call, the lights will come up, the volume will go down and the film will pause allowing you to speak to you caller in comfort. What’s more, you can do all this using the built in microphone and speakers of the touch-panel so you don’t need to hunt around for the phone. Finish the call with another touch, and the lights and volume will return to their original settings and the film will continue without you missing a frame. Ultamation are pleased to announce the release of a new Heatmiser module supporting the V3 protocol. The latest version of the Heatmiser products (also sold under other brands, such as Wavin) communicate using a more complex protocol which incorporates CRC error correction. Communicating directly with the thermostats over RS485, the initial release of the module supports power control, run-mode (normal or frost protect) and set-point control, all with true feedback, including current room temp and heating demand status.
